Taking 15 Minutes a Day For YOURSELF Can Change Your life

Life: It’s a beautiful thing, isn’t it? There is nothing more pleasing than waking up every day with a smile on your face. However, life is also filled with many ups and downs. One day you’ll wake up feeling fulfilled and happy. While the next day could be filled with darkness and feeling unsure of yourself. These mixed feelings are completely normal, and happen to everyone, (despite what it looks like on Social Media).

Maybe you’re having a bad week at work. The deadlines and workload are just piling on and now your boss is breathing down your neck. Maybe then you go home and start to take out your stress on your significant other. This right here is a vicious cycle and most definitely a recipe for disaster. But, what can you do? Do you quit your job just to make your life less stressful? That would be nice right? But for most of us, it’s just not an option.

How do we balance a busy work-life while maintaining a social life and not go completely insane? The answer is pretty simple: take 15 minutes a day to focus on just YOU. The dishes in the sink can wait. The call you just missed? You can call them back. Many of us spend so much time trying to appease others that we tend to forget about our own mental clarity.

All of my rambling bring me to talking about self-care. With that being said, know your worth. If you start to feel overwhelmed with life, it may be time to take a mental health day. Some employers actually encourage this, while others… not so much. Remember though, your just as important as your job. Taking time for some good ole’ R&R is NOT a bad thing.

You cannot give what you don’t have. If you are overtired and rundown, you won’t be giving your all. If you took just 15 minutes a day to focus on yourself, (eating right, working out, typical breathing exercises), what more do you think you could do then?

Your health depends on it. When you start to overwork yourself, mind and body start to feel the effects. Do you feel exhausted every day at noon? Well, it’s probably because you were up until 1AM the night before and then up for work at 6. I get it, trust me! As a freelance writer, I’ve spent many nights working on my next blog. The next day though, I’m dragging ass and there isn’t enough coffee in the world to fuel me.

Despite what some may think, ignorance is NOT bliss. Who else is a moody monster-bitch when they are overworked? Yeah, I’m not ashamed to admit that every so often I can feel myself transitioning from Dr. Jekyll to Mr. Hyde. What do I do when I feel myself slipping? I literally slip away. I take a breath and walk away from whatever is causing me stress. Throw on your headphones and go for a nice walk. You’ll be surprised at the instant change in the mood once you’re vibing to some old school 90’s music.

The takeaway here is this: You are important. Your health is important. You are worth those 15 minutes every day.
